Person Check: how to check a guarantor, a surety or a partner
Updated to
In brief: before accepting a surety, engaging a professional or assessing a new partner, you can check the natural person involved — not only the company they represent. Protests, proceedings against them, positions and shares in other companies, properties held in their name: public data, with source and date, usable only for three expressly declared purposes, never for personal curiosity.
The three situations in which it makes sense to check a person, not a company
The service exists for three declared purposes, the only ones for which it is offered:
- A professional or contractual relationship in progress or about to be established — before engaging a professional or collaborator, or starting a direct commercial relationship with a natural person (sole proprietor, self-employed professional).
- A guarantor or surety — before accepting someone's personal guarantee for a contract, a commercial lease or a credit line. See the dedicated guide.
- A partner or director, within an ongoing corporate or commercial transaction — before admitting a new partner or appointing a director. See the dedicated guide.
What you cannot check, and why — by law
The legal basis is legitimate interest (art. 6, para. 1, point (f), GDPR), not the consent of the person checked — but it is strictly limited to the three purposes above. Before every check you must declare which of the three applies to your case: that declaration documents the legitimate interest, but responsibility remains with whoever processes the data, and does not shift onto whoever makes the declaration. Expressly excluded — and not permitted by the service — are personal curiosity, checks on a partner or former partner, private disputes, and any form of surveillance or monitoring of a person outside a declared professional, guarantee or corporate relationship.
What the check includes, tier by tier
- Person Check (€29): protests, adverse records and insolvency proceedings against the person, from a public source, with the date of the check.
- Extended Person Check (€49): everything in the basic tier, plus positions in other companies (other than the one you are checking them for), shareholdings in other companies, and properties held in their name (Catasto, the Italian land register, national search).
As with the company report, every data point shown carries its source and date — never a judgement on the person, always the public fact as it appears.
What this check does not do
It is not a general personal investigation, an investigative dossier, or a judgement on the person's reliability: Veryfy is neither a law firm nor a private investigation agency — our expertise is risk management, algorithms that cross-reference several official databases to show specific public facts, always with source and date, never a prediction presented as certainty. It does not replace a lawyer's opinion on the structure of a guarantee or of a corporate transaction, nor a notary's on the deed you are about to sign — it is the preliminary level of checking that makes that advice better informed, not a way to skip it.
