Italian company accounts for UK credit controllers
Updated to
In short: Italian companies must file their annual accounts with the business register within thirty days of approval, so the accounts are public. Smaller companies may use an abbreviated format with fewer line items and no cash-flow statement. Read the format first, because an abbreviated balance sheet shows less than a full one and does not mean something is hidden.

Where the accounts are filed
Under art. 2435 of the Codice civile, a copy of the accounts, with the directors’ and auditors’ reports and the minutes of approval, must be deposited with the business register office, or sent to it by registered mail, within thirty days of approval. Companies without shares listed on a regulated market must also deposit the shareholders’ list (Normattiva: Codice civile, art. 2435). The Italian register portal lists the visura, the annual financial statements and protest records (Registro Imprese).
The abbreviated format (bilancio abbreviato)
Art. 2435-bis lets companies without securities traded on regulated markets prepare abbreviated accounts if, in the first year or for two consecutive years, they do not exceed two of three limits: balance-sheet total of €5,500,000, revenues from sales and services of €11,000,000, and 50 employees on average. The abbreviated balance sheet includes only the headings marked with capital letters and Roman numerals in art. 2424, and such companies are exempt from the cash-flow statement. Some profit-and-loss headings can be grouped (Normattiva: Codice civile, art. 2435-bis).
The UK comparison
The Companies Act 2006 sets its own qualifying conditions for a small company: s. 382 uses turnover, balance-sheet total and employee limits, with at least two to be met, and the turnover and balance-sheet figures were substituted from 6 April 2025 (legislation.gov.uk: section 382). The two regimes use different limits and different formats, so do not assume that a “small company” on each side files the same level of detail.
How to use the accounts in a credit decision
- Check which format was filed. An abbreviated filing is a normal choice below the limits, not a warning sign.
- Compare revenue and total assets with the size of the credit you are about to give.
- Note the filing date: accounts that are old, or missing, deserve a question to the customer.
- Combine the accounts with protest records and insolvency signals, because accounts alone are backward-looking.

Where Veryfy fits
Verifica (€19) returns an estimated operating credit line together with protests and insolvency signals. The estimate is a model output, not a promise that the customer will pay. Decisione (€49) adds restated financial statements. For the Istruttoria (€99), Veryfy adds risk algorithms developed by experienced risk managers.
Every company product comes with a free Check anti-truffa (anti-scam check): it looks at the VAT number in the EU VIES register, free webmail or disposable email, domain age, domains flagged for malware or phishing, SPF and DMARC protection, the VAT number shown on the website, data breaches affecting the site, and whether the IBAN is correctly written and from a country consistent with the company.
The service and the report are in Italian, and they come from Italian official sources: company names, offices and procedures keep their original Italian wording. Veryfy does not offer a translated report.
