Checking an Italian company: a guide for Irish businesses
Updated to
In short: Ireland and Italy are both in the EU, so Irish businesses can use EU tools with Italian counterparties: VAT numbers can be checked in VIES, and a creditor can use the European order for payment, which in Ireland is applied for in the High Court. The Italian company itself is recorded in Registro Imprese, which is where you compare name, office and VAT number.
What an Irish business can use
- VIES. Revenue says VIES lets traders confirm the VAT registration numbers of customers in other EU Member States (Revenue: what are VIES and Intrastat?).
- European order for payment. Under the Irish 2008 Regulations, an application is made to and determined by the High Court, with the Master performing most functions (Irish Statute Book: S.I. 525/2008, European Order for Payment Regulations 2008 (as made)).
- Beneficial ownership. Ireland keeps a Central Register of Beneficial Ownership of Companies and Industrial and Provident Societies, established by the 2019 Regulations; Italy applies art. 20 of D.Lgs. 231/2007 (Irish Statute Book: S.I. 110/2019, Beneficial Ownership of Corporate Entities Regulations 2019 (as made); Normattiva: D.Lgs. 231/2007, art. 20).

The service and the report are in Italian, and they come from Italian official sources: company names, offices and procedures keep their original Italian wording. Veryfy does not offer a translated report, and checkout is in Italian for now.
