Italian company report: cost and which level to choose
Updated to
In short: a check on an Italian company costs a UK buyer very little at the official level (a few euros per document from the Italian business register) and €19, €49 or €99 for a Veryfy report, paid once with no subscription. The documents tell you what the company is; a report tells you who controls it, whether it is in difficulty and how much to risk with it. Pick the level by what you stand to lose on the deal, not by the price.

What do official Italian documents cost?
For a UK company, Companies House makes the data it holds available free of charge and no registration is needed to view it (GOV.UK: search the Companies House register). Italy works differently: the register is kept by the Chambers of Commerce and published through the Registro Imprese portal, and the official extract (the visura camerale) is sold per document.
| Document | Sole trader and other forms | Limited company (S.r.l., S.p.A.) | Partnership |
|---|---|---|---|
| Ordinary visura (current position) | €3.00 | €5.00 | €3.50 |
| Historical visura (with the history of changes) | €4.00 | €6.00 | €4.50 |
Source: Registro Imprese: visura, historical visura and certificate. The same page says the visura is informative: it has no value as a certification and cannot be set against third parties, unlike the certificato camerale. It also notes that the legal representative or owner of a business can obtain the visura of their own business free of charge, even in English, through the Impresa italia service, so an Italian partner can send you theirs at no cost.
There is an official English version too. The register offers a Company Registration Report and a Company Registration Certificate for use abroad; the report costs the same as the Italian visura, and the certificate costs less than the Italian one because it is exempt from stamp duty (Registro Imprese: visura in English).
What a document does not tell you
A visura describes the company: its name, registered office, directors, shareholders and corporate status. It does not measure payment behaviour. Unpaid bills of exchange and bounced cheques sit in a separate register, the Registro Protesti, where each protest is kept for five years from publication or until it is cancelled, for example after payment or because it was wrongly lodged (Registro Imprese: protests). Our guide on Italian protests for UK suppliers explains how to read them.
So the cost question is really a coverage question. Pulling the visura, the protest search and the accounts separately means three searches in Italian, each with its own fee, and no one connecting them to the people behind the company.
What each Veryfy level adds
Every report is a one-off payment. Prices are in euros. The service and the report are in Italian, because they come from Italian official sources; company names, offices and procedures keep their original wording, and the guide How to read an Italian company report is the glossary.
| Product | Price | What it covers |
|---|---|---|
| Verification | €19 | Full company check, beneficial owner, shareholders and directors, estimated operating credit line, protests and insolvency signals, comparison with the sector |
| Decision (most chosen) | €49 | Everything in Verification, plus properties registered to the company, links with other companies and a restated financial statement |
| Investigation | €99 | Everything in Decision, plus risk algorithms developed by experienced risk managers |
| Negative records and insolvency proceedings | €5.90 | Protests and insolvency proceedings only, with source and date |
| Beneficial owner | €9.90 | Who really controls the company |
| Rating and operating credit line | €9.90 | Credit rating and estimated operating credit line |
| Essential | €14.90 | Negative records and beneficial owner together, cheaper than buying both separately |
Each company product comes with a free Check anti-truffa (anti-scam check): it looks at the VAT number in the EU VIES register, free webmail or disposable email, domain age, domains flagged for malware or phishing, SPF and DMARC protection, the VAT number shown on the website, data breaches affecting the site, and whether the IBAN is correctly written and from a country consistent with the company.
The estimated operating credit line is an estimate of how much you can reasonably risk with the company. It is not a guarantee and not payment insurance.
Which level for which deal?
This is practical guidance, not a rule: the right level depends on what you can afford to lose and on what you already know about the counterparty.
| Your situation | Question to settle | Report |
|---|---|---|
| First order, small value, goods paid before dispatch | Is this a real company with a real owner? | Verification (€19), or Essential (€14.90) if you only need protests and ownership |
| Open account, or a framework contract with an Italian customer | Who is behind it, and is it linked to other companies? | Decision (€49) |
| Large exposure, an investment or a sensitive file | Do we need the finest reading of the risk? | Investigation (€99) |
| You only suspect payment trouble | Any protests or insolvency proceedings? | Negative records and insolvency proceedings (€5.90) |
A one-off check does not replace monitoring: repeat it before renewing a contract or raising a credit line, because a company's position can change.
Ready to order? Start with a Verification at €19, or compare the levels on the pricing page. If a supplier has just sent you new bank details, read Italian supplier changed IBAN first.
